                          Our Mission

Provide those in need with services, identify gaps in services, provide a physical location to support coordinated delivery of services by multiple agencies, and collaborate with other agencies to develop or advocate for new services.

LINK PROFILE

The LINK was created as a project of the Atascadero Youth Task Force (AYTF) in 1998. The LINK was created as an action arm to identify services, assist youth and families to connect with needed services and to develop services to support families. The LINK has expanded into a Family Resource Center, including Family Advocates to work with the schools and families connecting them with needed support, addressing problems associated with parenting, school and health. The LINK has grown to the point where it has assumed an independent role as a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization providing needed services to the community.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER/FAMILY ADVOCATES

The heart of the LINK is the Family Resource Center and the Family Advocates. Working out of the center the advocate work directly with families and children, linking them with services, providing guidance and support and a friendly shoulder. The Family Advocate provides in home support to families by coordinating services, and assisting in removing barriers that interfere with the families’ success and/or health. The Family Advocates serve to guide the family through the maze of services and help avoid conflict and duplication of effort.

S.A.F.E. (COMMUNITY BASED/INTENSIVE TEAM)

The family advocate may with the cooperation of the family take them to a Service Affirming Family Empowerment (S.A.F.E.) team meeting. This team either at an intensive level (IT) (the family is endanger of the children being removed) or a community based level (CBT) meet with the family and confirm the strengths and needs of the family to develop a plan to mitigate the issues facing that family. The Family Advocate serves as a case coordinator and follows up with the family and the team members to insure the components of the plan are carried forward. They serve as the point of contact for the program and provide a trusted resource for the family.

TRANSITIONS TRAINING PROGRAM

The program addresses workability of young people facing the barriers  created by poverty, lack of skills and understanding of the rules that will make them successful. The target group would be youth in school, in grades 9, 10 & 11 who are potential drop-outs because of  academic failure, pregnancy, a physical or learning disability, juvenile offenses, being in  foster care and/or home environment. The purpose of the program would be to develop work ethic and employability skills in youth who come from generational families of poverty. We have commonly treated the symptom of school failures, absenteeism and dropouts, but not addressed the causes

 COMMUNITY SERVICE

Youth assigned community service by the courts, probation, and schools are assisted in locating and performing the required service. Many community service opportunities are one time events and require the ability to centralize a calendar for referral of youth. The program matches youth with these opportunities and monitors their progress, reporting to the ordering party. A file is developed and each youth is assessed on entry to include an Asset Inventory, an availability profile, an interest profile and a contract. Upon completion an asset inventory is again accomplished to see if the youth has gained in their personal growth.

SERVICE ACCOMODATION

The LINK provides a location for other agencies to deliver their services to the community. This is particularly true of agencies based in San Luis Obispo who otherwise would not service the Atascadero area. These include such organizations as Community Counseling Center , Sexual Assault and Recovery Program, Family Care Network, and Community Mediation Services. We also support public agencies by providing space for service delivery such as Alcohol and Drugs, A Probation Youth Tutoring Program, Team Decision Making Meetings, and Tobacco Control. Finally we co-locate Department of Social Service Employment Resource Specialists for Cash Aid,  Medi-Cal and Food Stamps, Child Welfare Worker for Child Abuse Prevention Programs and EOC’s in home Parent Educator.

FISCAL SERVICES AND SUPPORT (AYTF/CCY/ACC)

We provide administrative support including agenda preparation and distribution and fiscal services for the Atascadero Youth Task Force and the Atascadero Community Coalition. We are also an integral partner in those organizations and their efforts. In addition we provide fiscal support for the Cambria Coalition for Youth.

ASSET DEVELOPMENT

In partnership with the Asset Development Network we conduct community outreach to enhance the asset development of youth using the 40 Developmental Asset Philosophy as a base.. This effort includes the conduct of Asset Development classes conducted by volunteers for our community service program. Youth can gain community service hours by attending these twice monthly classes.

PARENT EDUCATION:

We provide parenting classes in Positive Discipline and Parent Project for parents in the community at low cost or no cost including appropriate classroom books. In addition, we maintain the county wide directory to parenting classes in the county and provide the centralized referral number for parent resources and classes. www.parentassets.org

RESOURCE GUIDE

We compile and confirm the resources available to the community into a resource guide. This guide is then published and distributed in English (19,000 copies) and Spanish (2500 copies) throughout the community. The guide includes numbers for Health Care Resource, Services for Pregnant Women, Hospitals/Clinics, Dental, Public Health, Community Health Resource/Support Groups, Home Care Services, Mental Health, Drug/Alcohol Services, Food/Nutrition, General Assistance, Housing, Legal/Immigration, Libraries, Employment, Latino Resources, Business Community Resources, Atascadero City Administration, Youth, Transportation, Senior Services, Schools and Emergency Services.
